VAT (short for Value Added Tax) is a sales tax, which, we must add on to all prices if the customer
is in the UK or in the
European Union (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg,
Monaco,
Netherlands, Portugal, Spain & Sweden).
Customers outside the E.U. do not pay any sales tax (you may still have to pay an import duty in your
own country).
VAT is currently charged at 17.5% on all products, services & shipping, with the exception of books
which are given a
zero rating for VAT purposes.
For customers outside the UK but within the E.U. who are registered for VAT (i.e. companies) we do not
have to charge
VAT if you can provide us with your VAT number. If you are in the EU and not VAT registered we must
charge VAT at
the current rate.
For example, if you are in France and not VAT registered and you want a solar system costing £1000,
we must charge
17.5% VAT which adds £175, if however you are outside the EU in Gibraltar, we do not add VAT regardless
of your
status (company or private), but you may still be liable for import duty. Therefore in France the system
would cost you
£1175 and £1000 in Gibraltar.
YOU are responsible for import duty and taxes for your particular country. These charges are usually
paid for by the
carriers who then bill you at a later date.
